The Count of Monte Cristo and Emilia Pérez shortlisted For 2025 Best International Feature Film Candidate
Four films have been shortlisted to represent France at the Oscars.
This shortlist includes one of the biggest hits of the year in France, The Count of Monte Cristo, by Alexandre de La Patellière and Matthieu Delaporte, still in cinemas after eleven weeks in release. The adaptation of Alexandre Dumas's novel, starring Pierre Niney as Edmond Dantès, has topped the 8 million mark, according to Box-Office figures released on Wednesday.
The list also includes Jacques Audiard's musical Emilia Perez, which won the Jury Prize at the last Cannes Film Festival and the collective acting prize for Zoe Saldaña, Selena Gomez and transgender lead actress Karla Sofía Gascón. The movie has been recently presented at the TIFF where it was acclaimed by critics and public.
